How we calculate your moon phase
Every Moon Moment starts with a date. We use astronomical calculations to determine the Moon’s phase and illuminated fraction for that date, then use that result to create your personalised artwork.
1. You choose the meaningful date
It might be a wedding, anniversary, birth, first meeting or any day that matters to you. That date becomes the astronomical reference for your print.
2. We calculate the lunar phase
Moon Moments uses the Astronomy Engine library to calculate the Moon’s phase angle and illumination. The site uses this calculation as its single source of truth for identifying phases such as new moon, crescent, quarter, gibbous and full moon.
3. We turn the result into your artwork
The calculated phase is combined with the design style and personal details you choose, including names, date, location and message.
